Alex Kirk, Elsie-May Taylor, Gracie Edeson and Nicola Anderton, are the latest new starters to join the busy team at Dutton Moore Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers in Market Place, Hull.

Alex, 19, from Elloughton, has joined the team after completing his A-Levels at South Hunsley Sixth Form College. Elsie-May, 18, from Hedon, joins from Wyke Sixth Form College. Gracie, 18, from Driffield, joins after studying A-Levels at Driffield School and Sixth Form, and Nicola, 18, from North Lincolnshire, joins from Wyke Sixth Form College.

Both Elsie-May and Nicola have gone straight onto the ICAEW Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification, as they studied Accountancy at A-Level, and Alex and Gracie are starting their accountancy career, studying for the Level 3 Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) before moving onto the ACA qualifications.

All the new trainee accountants are studying alongside working within the Dutton Moore team, producing year end statements, VAT returns, assisting on audits, producing working papers and tax work.

The four new starters are the latest students in years of progressive succession planning at the firm with new school leavers joining every summer and going on to qualify. The firm has a long history of investing in young local talent and has an enviable in-house training scheme backed up by the professional industry examinations. Scores of accountants and Partners at Dutton Moore joined straight from school, college and university and have gone on to forge very successful careers at the city centre practice.

Tony Bullock, Managing Partner, said: “We are constantly investing in our future. It’s good to stay local and work with talented young people on our doorstep. Investing in our city and ultimately in our firm is a priority to us at Dutton Moore. The calibre of students historically has been very good from our local 6th Form colleges, and we are pleased to welcome these four new team members as they forge out successful careers with us. Wherever possible we want to promote within and nurture our top-grade staff.”

All the students have chosen to take the professional in-house route in qualifying to be accountants, as opposed to the university route. Steven Raines, Partner at Dutton Moore, is the designated ICAEW Training Counsellor and supports the students on their route to becoming Chartered Accountants. He added: “I joined Dutton Moore in 2005 as a school leaver and I am keenly involved in nurturing our student careers within the practice. Our trainees have chosen to get on with their careers straight away as opposed to the university route. They will ultimately end up with the same job and qualifications, this is just a quicker route with valuable on-the-job experience and without being saddled with the costs that university inevitably involves.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our four new starters, and they have made a great start to their careers already. Welcome to Alex, Elsie-May, Gracie, and Nicola to our team.”
